Academics

Student are required to take 8 classes a year on a A / B block schedule. This is a schedule where you take 4 classes a day and alternate between schedules. The school uses the State of South Carolina's uniform grading scale where an A is 100–93, a B is 92–85, a C is 84–77, a D is 76–70, and a F is 70–0. Bluffton High School has numerous educational resources to help the students out. The resources they have are APEX, Rosetta Stone, Compass Learning, EDM online, Rubicon Atlas, Promethian Planet, SAT prep, Shairpoint, School Fusion, and USA test prep.

In the 2010 school year sixteen AP classes were offered at Bluffton High School. In 2010 a total of 418 exams were administered to 254 students. Out of all the exam given, 58% of these exams received a passing grade. More than 90% of college and universities in the United states gives credit for these exams.

Uniform Policy

In Beaufort County Schools, students are expected to dress to the regulations of the school uniform. Students are expected to wear the right choice of shirt, pants, shoes and other accessories. Students are allowed to choose from a solid white, solid gray, or solid black collar shirt. All shirts must be tucked in. Shirts are allowed to wear shirts with school logos on them. They are also allowed to wear Bluffton high school sweatshirts over their uniform. Any other outerwear must be put into the students locker the entire school day. Students are not allowed to wear bottoms of jean material or bottoms that have designs or embroidery on them. It is also mandatory to wear a belt with the bottoms. Shorts and skirts are not allowed to be three inches above the knee when standing. Cargo shorts and pants are also not allowed. Both shirts and bottoms must not exceed one size smaller or larger than necessary. The administrators determine whether the clothing is the correct size. Footwear must be worn at all times, and must be close toed. Flip flops, crocs, slippers, and heelies are not allowed. Students are not allowed to wear any large medallions or large necklaces or any form of headwear.

Athletics

  • In 2010, Bluffton High School softball, volleyball, wrestling and boys soccer teams were awarded regional champions.
  • In 2010 the Bluffton High School girls golf team won the state championship.

Football

Bluffton High School's football team is currently ranked number one in AAA. In the 2011 football season, coach Ken Cribs have lead the bobcats to a perfect 10-0 record in the regular season and one win in the post season. Coach Cribs has had success ever since he was appointed head coach. In his first season as head coach he lead the team to a 12-2 record. He has had much more success than the two previous head coaches. Coach Jeremy West (2007-2009) had a 9-21 record and coach Dave Adams (2004-2006) had a record of 9-23. The bobcats have outscored their opponents 605-54 in the 2011 regular season. The bobcats' largest point difference was against Battery Creek High School when they beat them 82-0. They outscored their rival high school 76-0 in their first meeting and 58-6 in their second meeting. The most points put up against them in the regular season was 14 points. In the first round of the playoffs they played Georgetown and won by a score of 69-29. The next team they play in the playoffs will be Hartsville High School on November 11, 2011.
