Settlement in the area of Bludenz began in prehistoric times http://www.bludenz.at/de/stadtverwaltung/stadtwappen/. The name Bludenz originates from the Celts. In 600 BC there was a military training ground of the Romans. Over the years, churches and castles were built in the city. Nowadays, Bludenz is a popular hiking and mountain-biking resort in the summer months. Bludenz lies on the way to many skiing resorts not far away (e.g., Brand http://brand.at and Lech http://www.lech.at). Thanks to the A14 motorway, that passes Bludenz, the name of the town is very well known in Austria.
