Her husband, Frank Maltese, was the Cicero township assessor; among other duties, he was the driver for Cicero town president Henry Klosak. Frank Maltese was a bookmaker for the mob; he died in 1991. In 1993, Loren-Maltese became town president following the death of Henry Klosak. Loren-Maltese was well liked by many residents of the suburb for her attempts to improve the community. She was particularly known for helping senior citizens with many free services. However in 2002, she was found guilty of helping to steal $12 million of the city's funds in an insurance scam. She was sentenced to eight years in a federal prison in California
