She has won several awards, among them the Peabody and many Audience Awards for her work.
Her previous directorial work includes “ONE HOT SUMMER” starring Vanessa Marcil, Casper Van Dien and Jon Seda shot for LIFETIME Television released in 2009; “LAW AND ORDER CRIMINAL INTENT, "LEGACY” season 7 (2008), this was the highest rated Law & Order Criminal Intent episode: at 4.06 local & 3.8 National numbers; “THE DIVISION: THE JOURNEY” Season 2 for LIFETIME (2002) This was the highest rated Original Series Episode at 3.6 National numbers; "BOLIVAR," an entire mini-series for television Kaplan wrote and directed, financed by Venezuelan state television, dramatizing Simon Bolivar

his first English language movie role; introducing Banderas to Hollywood. Jennifer Connelly was the lead in this film, convincing Latin Americans that she was truly upper class Chilean. Stefania Sandrelli (THE CONFORMIST) was also the lead. Often Kaplan writes, directs and produces her own film projects.
Current film project: "El Numero Uno". The fascinating tragic story of Venezuela's Johnny Carson, Renny Ottolina, its top media personality. Local media moguls and politicians felt so threatened by Ottolina's popularity they forced him out television, but he came back much stronger on radio. Venezuelans tired of corruption were looking for a political savior and Renny Ottolina decided to run for president. Three months before the elections, Ottolina was killed.
Betty has also directed several television commercials, directed theater in Los Angeles. She is Co-Chair of the Directors Guild of America Latino Committee, organizing key events, including the screening of Guillermo Del Toro’s THE GOLDEN ARMY, THIS IS IT, Michael Jackson's film directed by Kenny Ortega and did the Q&A of Rodrigo Garcia's MOTHER AND CHILD. . Betty is currently working on over a dozen Screenplays in various Genres that are out to major Production companies for consideration.
