History

Bellmund is first mentioned in 1107 as Bellus mons. In 1228 it was mentioned as Belmunt.

Geography

Bellmund has an area, , of 3.8 km² (1.5 sq mi). Of this area, 1.98 km² (0.764482274013219 sq mi) or 52.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while1.26 km² (0.486488719826594 sq mi) or 33.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.56 km² (0.21621720881182 sq mi) or 14.7% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01 km² (2.5 acre) or 0.3% is either rivers or lakes.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 9.7% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.9%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.3%. 32.4% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 38.9% is used for growing crops and 10.5% is pastures, while 2.6% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
