Albin served as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Criminal Practice Committee from 1987 until 1992, and gained the honor of being selected by peers to have his name included in the "Best Lawyers in America" (2000–2001). He became the President of the New Jersey Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a position he held in the year of 1999.

Albin was nominated by Governor James E. McGreevey on July 10, 2002 as a justice in the New Jersey Supreme Court. He was confirmed on September 12 of the same year and was officially sworn in on September 18, 2002.
