Playing career

. Failing to find a new team in the United Kingdom, Hughes moved to the Netherlands to play semi-professional football with Amsterdam-based club side Blauw-Wit.

Coaching career

After retiring as a player, Hughes began his coaching career in 1966 with Alkmaar'54, and later managed a variety of Dutch club sides including HFC Haarlem
