Clinical Volume

The clinical volume of the BNI is unparalleled by any other institution in the world. There are 11 dedicated neurosurgical ORs, with typically 2 cases per room, averaging 18 to 20 cases per weekday and 100 cases per week. Previous figures reported to the ACGME for re-accreditation in 2007-8 academic year was a total of 6,681 cases. This does not include majority of supplementary procedures including:

The operating rooms are state of the art, with each operating room two times the size of the average OR, three 64" plasma screens in each room, three High Definition cameras to enhance the surgeon experience, as well as a 3T intraoperative MRI.

Additionally, the new BNI towers contain 64 dedicated neurosurgical ICU beds with an additional 8 ICU beds for overflow, as well as 80+ Neuroacute floor beds to accommodate the large influx of patients.

programs in the United States. With 4 residents accepted per year, the BNI is also the largest Neurosurgical residency program in the country. The BNI also offers a Cerebrovascular Fellowship (Spetzler), Neuroendovascular Fellowship (Albuquerque/McDougall), and Spine Fellowship (Theodore). Graduates from the program have gone to become chairmen at other neurosurgical programs, head various national neurosurgical societies, developed novel access to skull base tumors, and have patented innumerable neurosurgical devices.
