BSA Supersport Air Rifle
Encyclopedia
The BSA Supersport is an air rifle produced by BSA Guns (UK) Limited a subsidiary of Spanish manufacturer Gamo. It is essentially the same rifle as the Lightning, the only difference being that the Lightning has the BSA Volumetric Silencer fitted. It is made in three calibres, 0.177" (4.5mm), 0.22" (5.5mm) and 0.25" (6.35mm). It comes with simple post and notch plastic sights.

The mechanics of the Supersport are simple, a spring and piston is compressed by pulling the barrel through 110º before a pellet
Pellet (air gun)
An air gun pellet is, for the most part, a non-spherical projectile designed to be fired from an air gun. But this is not always the case.Pellets differ from bullets used in firearms because of the pressures encountered; firearms operate at pressures of thousands of atmospheres, while airguns...

is loaded directly into the barrel. The barrel is returned to the rest position and locks into place with a detent lock, the rifle is then ready to fire.
The Supersport was first introduced in 1986 and has been in production for 21 years.

There are two versions, the Mk2 version differing in that it has three cocking links, unlike the older two links, and there is now an external spring guide.
The stock is beech and fitted with a rubber recoil pad
Recoil pad
A recoil pad is a piece of rubber, foam, leather or other soft material usually attached to the buttstock of a rifle. Recoil pads may also be worn around the shoulder with straps, placing the soft material between the buttstock and shoulder of the person firing the rifle. The purpose of this device...

. The trigger is a two stage metal blade, adjustable for pressure. The only plastic parts on the gun are sights.

The Supersport, being spring powered suffers from recoil
Recoil
Recoil is the backward momentum of a gun when it is discharged. In technical terms, the recoil caused by the gun exactly balances the forward momentum of the projectile and exhaust gasses, according to Newton's third law...

. Range is limited to about 50m, with 25-30m being the maximum hunting range.
Power is 16J (12ft/lb), the UK legal limit for non FAC airguns.
