BIIAB
Encyclopedia
The BIIAB is the wholly owned awarding body of BII (British Institute of Innkeeping), the professional body for the licensed retail industry.

BIIAB’s parent company, BII, is a registered charity whose remit is to raise professional standards across the sector. BII achieves this in a number of ways, including the development and awarding of qualifications specifically for the sector and available through BIIAB. Any profit generated by BIIAB is covenanted to BII, to support its charitable aims.

BIIAB produces the market-leading personal licence holder qualification BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) and is part of a wide portfolio of qualifications specifically designed for the licensed retail sector

Being an integral part of the licensed industry, and able to reflect the views of thousands of individual BII members within it, means that BIIAB has its finger firmly on the pulse of industry needs. BIIAB is the industry’s choice for qualifications because all of its qualifications are developed with industry, for industry. This means they are fit-for-purpose.

BIIAB develops and regularly updates all of its qualifications by involving key stakeholders such as the police, national and local government, licensed retailers and licensing authorities. This ensures they are absolutely accurate from a legal and practice perspective.

BIIAB is accredited by Ofqual and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and is the 6th largest vocational qualifications awarding body in the UK. Over 1.5 million BIIAB qualifications have been processed to date. As an organisation accredited by Ofqual, SQA and International Standards Organisation (ISO), BIIAB is committed to giving its centres excellent service.
