History and Background

According to the town center in Arden on the Severn, the area was used in the past for mining and cultivation. It developed into a community as the miners and cultivators remained close to and resided in the areas by the mines, especially areas closest to the beaches. There are a total of 4 community sponsored beaches in the town. It is one of the wealthiest areas in Anne Arundel County along with the Annapolis, Severna Park, and Davidsonville areas with the average household value at over $850,000.

Its properties are some of the most sought after in the state, as the community is secluded from main roads and businesses, but is close enough for easy commuting. One of the oldest homes in the vicinity is located on Dockser Drive and was built in the 1930s during the mining period. The area is mostly wooded, but its proximity to the beaches aids in raising the property value of most if not all of the homes in the area. Most of the children in the community attend the Old Mill School Complex or the nearby private school, Indian Creek.
