 Aranga means is raised stage and etram means climbing, thus Arangetram literally means climbing the stage or reach the stage, thus it represents the graduation ceremony when the Guru presents his/her pupil to the public. The Kannada word for it is Rangapravesha or simply Pravesha. It traces its origins from the devdasi (temple dancer) tradition.
