She was born Anna Maria Guerra changing her last name in honor of composer Willy Ferrero.
At age 15 she debuted on screen in Il cielo è rosso (1950). Her next role was in Il duca di Sant'Elmo (1950) and in Il Cristo proibito (1951), the only film directed by the famous writer Curzio Malaparte
.
Ferrero has worked with director Michelangelo Antonioni

and co starred opposite Marcello Mastroianni
