Academics - Pre-Kindergarten

AOAs programs are designed to provide social interaction with a diverse group of children. Learning to verbalize feelings, negotiate compromises, and encourage one another with kind words are skills that are continually practiced. The curriculum includes a wide range of disciplines including science, language arts, social studies, math, public speaking, art, music, Spanish, and physical education.

Academics - Lowers School (K - 5th Grades)

The emphasis in kindergarten through 2nd grade is development of the whole child in a nurturing, child-centered learning environment. Teachers are committed to meeting the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of all students in their classes. Thus, in the classrooms one may observe: whole group, small group, or even individual instruction; differentiated lessons, responsive classroom techniques, interest centers, hands-on experiential activities, and cooperative learning circles. The curriculum has a definite scope and sequence development where students build on skills and understandings from year to year. All students receive instruction in language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, swimming, library, technology, and Spanish. The unique public speaking program begins in kindergarten and continues throughout the grades. Teachers integrate their subjects in order to insure more meaningful learning connections for students.
Weekly programs include student-led public speaking assemblies where students share poetry, proverb storytelling, and American inventors and inventions reports. All students participate in community service projects such as health and disaster fundraisers, local food baskets, and the Toys for Tots program.

Academics - Middle School (6th - 8th Grades)

The curriculum offers a full complement of courses, including english, mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, foreign language, physical education, health education, visual arts, performing arts and technology. It offers an integrated, experiential education from the interdisciplinary study of Greece to reliving colonial times, students are actively engaged in learning through experience. The educational program focuses on academic excellence, connects school and family, and underscores the development of the whole child. The curriculum is developmentally appropriate, and teaching addresses the individual skill levels and learning styles of students.

Academics - Upper School (9th - 12th Grades)

The Andrews Osborne Academy Upper School curriculum emphasizes the importance of a lifelong engagement with the world. As a college-preparatory school, AOA offers a challenging curriculum that prepares students for future academic success, and purposeful, fulfilling lives. AOA strives to graduate citizens who can think critically, discuss important matters articulately, write persuasively, and act responsibly.

Straddling the traditional and progressive in its offerings, the academic program at AOA, despite its small size, provides students opportunities to pursue avenues of interest in depth while gaining solid grounding in all academic disciplines. Committed to offering its students a well-rounded program, AOA builds its curriculum upon a solid foundation of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Foreign Languages, Technology and Fine Arts, offering many opportunities for advanced work in all areas. These core subjects are complemented and enhanced by AOA’s electives in various disciplines, but whether it be Pre-Calculus or Biodiesel, the offerings at AOA all collaborate toward the development of critical thinking, communication skills, analysis, problem solving, logical thinking, and empathetic understanding of global social, political, and scientific issues. AOA's growing international population has necessitated the advancement of what is now a stable and strong ESL program that remains essential to the school's success as that contingent continues to grow.

Equestrian Riding Program

Students can participate in schooling and rated horse shows on an AOA school horse or on their own horse. AOAs program supports students who are serious competitors, as well as a student riding in their first show. There is also a community lesson program available for non AOA students.

The Andrews Osborne Academy Equestrian Center is an unparalleled high school facility. The Center opened in May 1999. The horses are cared for by a professional staff who ensures that their dietary, environmental, and turnout needs are met.

The barn itself features 42 12’ x 12’ Loddon stalls, automatic waterers, three tack rooms with individual lockers for each horse, 4 wash stalls, and 6 additional grooming areas. There is a radiant floor heating system for comfort on winter days. The barn has ample riding space with two outdoors all-weather rings, (2) 140’ x 280’ and (1) 100’ x 200’. One of the highlights of The Equestrian Center is the main arena, an 80’ x 200’ indoor ring that attaches to the main barn and another 80’ x 200’ indoor ring. Both indoor rings are equipped with judge’s stands and heated bleacher areas.

The indoor arenas are linked together with a two-story heated and air-conditioned Viewing Lounge. The Lounge overlooks not only the two rings, but the main barn aisle as well, so spectators can get a real "behind the scenes" view. In addition to the main barn, there are two smaller barns which offer stabling for our lesson horses, bringing us to a full capacity of 60 horses.

Athletics

AOA’s zero-cut policy promotes participation and encourages students to be part of the team, and the coaches share the school’s commitment to the success of each child.

Campus Life at Andrews Osborne

Boarding students live in one of five Victorian style dorms and have the opportunity to go participate in off-campus excursions such as trips to Cleveland Museums, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, shopping centers, concerts, and much more. Approximately 30% of Andrews students reside on-campus and hail from 19 different countries and ten states.

Student life at AOA is full of opportunities to explore both in and out of the classroom, discover leadership abilities through athletics, student government, and make new friends. Located just thirty minutes east of Cleveland, AOA students take advantage of everything that city and region has to offer. Weekend activities, modeled for our boarding students, are open to all and whether you choose to board or not, the campus is full of activity well after the last class of the day.
