Andrew Jackson formerly held a school of 1075 students. August 29, 2005, Andrew Jackson was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. As of 2006, the school re-opened not as a high school, but a middle school. The school opens and dismisses at 8:30am–3:20pm. On August 2010, Andrew Jackson re-opened its doors as a middle school. The elementary students registered and transferred to Chalmette Elementary School, on the Chalmette Middle School Campus.
