Political career

Prior to her election in 2010, Leadsom was a councillor on South Oxfordshire District Council between 2003 and 2007, and also contested Knowsley South

Andrea Leadsom was a member of the controversial A-List. and was one of the first on this priority list to be selected for a seat, chosen as she was in June 2006 for the newly-created South Northamptonshire constituency. The notional majority for the seat was 11,356. In the event, she won it with a majority of more than 20,000.

She stepped down from her job as Head of Corporate Governance at Invesco Perpetual in order to concentrate on politics.
