Mythology

Andover was the site of a large train wreck which common local myth incorrectly cites as the source of the name of the city. The popular yarn is that a typographical error in a local newspaper stated that the train rolled over Andover, thus the name.

Contrary to this lore, the name Andover pre-dates the train wreck which is evidenced by train schedules listing Andover Station prior to the wreck.
