The area of Sung Noen was the location of two ancient cities, Mueang

Sema and Mueang Khorakha Pura (Khorat). When the Northeastern railway was finished, the community in Ban Sung Noen due to the passing railway. Thus the government established Sung Noen district in 1901.

Sung Noen literally means high hills, as the village has never been flooded and has 2 hills beside a pond.

The area of Sung Noen was the location of two ancient cities, Mueang

Sema and Mueang Khorakha Pura (Khorat). When the Northeastern railway was finished, the community in Ban Sung Noen due to the passing railway. Thus the government established Sung Noen district in 1901.

). There are two townships (thesaban tambon) - Sung Noen covers parts of tambon Sung Noen, and Kut Chik covers parts of the tambon Kut Chik and Na Klang.
