Amivox
Encyclopedia
A provider of free and low-cost mobile communication, that allows users to place cheap calls, and to send voice messages in multiple forms. The Amivox services can be accessed from mobile phones, tablet PCs, computers and landline phones. The name Amivox comes from the two latin words "amicus" and "vox". Amivox claims to help users to speak instead of typing their mobile messages.

Amivox is privately held by its 3 founders. It is currently based in three locations: Reykjavik, Iceland, Glasgow, United Kingdom and Kolding, Denmark.

History

  • Amivox was legally registered in Iceland in 2006 by Arnar Gestsson, Birkir Marteinsson and Eric Figueras. Operations, however, did not start till 1Q2007.

  • The office in Kolding (Denmark) opened in March 2007

  • The office in Glasgow (UK) opened in July 2007

  • The company's SMS Global reach started in August 2007

  • The Amivox JME client was released in February 2008

  • www.amivox.com opened in October 2008

  • The mobile web service http://m.amivox.com for cheap international calls and SMS was launched in August 2009

  • The mark "AMIVOX" obtained trade mark protection of classes 9, 38, 42 and 45 in multiple countries across all continents

  • The web site http://www.amivox.com for cheap calls and voice messaging was launched in March 2010

  • The Blackberry app was launched in August 2010

  • The first Android application was made available in February 2011
