Mission
The mission of the ACNP is to ensure a solid policy and regulatory foundation that enables nurse practitioners to continue providing accessible, high quality healthcare to the nation.History
Citing a lack of an organized forum to discuss common issues faced by nurse practitioners, national experts convened a Leadership Summit in 1993 to strategize ways to increase NP participation in national health policy. This small group of about 125 NPs chartered what was then called the National Nurse Practitioner Coalition. They began disseminating information to other NPs on how to successfully advocate and lobby for inclusion in health policy for the nation.In 1994, the Coalition changed its organizational structure to a membership organization.
