Education

One of the first schoolhouses was located at 236 East Main Street. The M.J. Chapmans bought the house in the 1880s and remodeled it into a home.

In 1949 the schools of the Humbird, Merrillan, and Alma Center consolidated and all high school students were transported to Alma Center. A $300,000 addition was added to Lincoln High School on September 8, 1968. Another addition was added in 1975 for $1.2 million. In 1995 the original three-story school was demolished.
