Description

The statue was commissioned in 1917 and dedicated on May 17,1923. The statue was sculpted by James Earl Fraser who sculpted it out of bronze. It features Hamilton in knee breeches, a throat fichu, bucked shoes, and with ruffles on his wrists. The statue also depicts Hamilton holding a three cornered hat and a long dress coat in his hands. The statue is 10 feet high, and was founded by Kunst Foundty. It is on Henry Bacon's 9 feet tall base, which was constructed out of granite.

Inscriptions

The base of the statue is inscribed on three sides, with the front reading:

CHAMPION OF CONSTITUTIONAL UNION,

The north face reads:

"He smote the rock of the national resources and abundant streams of revenue gushed forth. He touched the dead corpse of the public credit and it sprang upon its feet."
