The current incarnation of State Route 62 was designated in 2002. Before then, the roadway was an unsigned county road. State Route 62 is a two-lane roadway that serves to connect Lake Guntersville State Park with U.S. Highway 431 and State Routes 69 and 79 via State Route 227.
