. Eight of the top nations in the world compete to win the prize. It is held every year as part of the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show and is now part of the Samsung Super League. If the trophy is won three times in succession the nation who wins gets to take the trophy home and a new one will then be presented. Ireland last won the trophy in succession in 1977, 1978 and 1979.
