The 2011–12 Primera División season is the eighty-third season of top-flight professional football in Argentina
. A total of 20 teams will compete in the league. It started on August 5, 2011 and will end on June 2012.

International qualification this season presented a change from previous ones. As in previous seasons, qualification for the first four berths remains the same (the previous season's Clausura champion, this season's Apertura champion, and the top two non-champions in an aggregate table of the aforementioned tournaments). The fifth Copa Libertadores berth will be given to the best team in the Copa Sudamericana who has not already qualified otherwise. Qualification to the Copa Sudamericana will be determined through the same aggregate table as the Copa Libertadores. However, the six berth will go to the top six teams that have not qualified to the Copa Libertadores and who will not be participating in relegation/promotion playoffs.

1 Vélez Sársfield is qualified as the 2011 Clausura champion that has not already qualified otherwise.
2 Arsenal is qualified as the second-best Argentine team in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana, as Vélez Sársfield has qualified for the 2012 Copa Libertadores Second Stage. They may still earn a higher berth.

As in previous seasons, qualification for the first four berths remains the same (the previous season's Clausura champion, this season's Apertura champion, and the top two non-champions in an aggregate table of the aforementioned tournaments). The fifth Copa Libertadores berth will be given to the best team in the Copa Sudamericana who has not already qualified otherwise. Qualification to the Copa Sudamericana will be determined through the same aggregate table as the Copa Libertadores. However, the six berth will go to the top six teams that have not qualified to the Copa Libertadores and who will not be participating in relegation/promotion playoffs.
