  • 1998 was the only year to have a main event final table contested by just 5 players after Scotty Nguyen eliminated both "Gentleman" Ben Roberts and Jan "The Walrus" Lundberg" in the same hand.
  • At one point during the final heads-up play, runner-up Kevin McBride went to the bathroom after going all-in and before Scotty Nguyen had made his decision; a very unorthodox "play".
