Game summary

The rematch would be much less close than the 1984 game, with Miami shutting out the Huskers for the entire first half, leading 20-0 at halftime. Nebraska would finally score with a field goal in the third quarter, but Miami would respond with its own in the fourth. Hurricanes quarterback Steve Walsh would also set a new Orange Bowl record with 44 attempted passes, completing 23 of them.

Aftermath

The game would be Jimmy Johnson's last with the Miami Hurricanes, as he would leave the team to become head coach of the Dallas Cowboys
