1974 Everest Disaster

On 9 September 1974, the West Ridge Direct was attempted by a French expedition which resulted in tragedy. All of the six climbers died in an avalanche on the way to the Summit, and were the 31-36th deaths on Everest .

The team consisted of:

  • Pemba Dorje (Sherpa)
  • Nawang Lutuk (Sherpa)
  • Nima Wangchu (Sherpa)
