Plato believed that wisdom and reason were more effective governing tools than rhetoric and persuasion; according to his model, classical democracy would inevitably degenerate into rule by a select few.

Plato suggesteted that a state should be that which is very small with a population of about 6000 peaple but in reality this is impossible.for if we are to have such states,then a country like America could be having afleet of states.too there could be many conflicts as peaple stuggle to expand their states and this will mean a learge population thus against platos ideas on the nature and size of an ideal state.
