What was the state of things before colonization reached present Kenya?

The area was inhabited by people surrounding regions from all sides - Bantu speaking, Swahili speaking people (which is why that is a common language spoken in the area)

Inclusive of the Arabs and the Persians who converted the coastal areas in to trade centres for farming, fishing and other natural resources which the region boasted of.
