We know that General Bradley's Chief of Staff, Major General Lev Allen, called Patton's Chief of Staff, Major General Hugh Gaffey at 11:30 AM on the morning of August 13th and told him, "... by order of General Bradley the Anglo-American boundary in the Falaise-Argentan area was not to be crossed under any circumstances and that the advance of [Haislip's] XV Corps was to halt forthwith on the Argentan-Sees line." This was the order that halted Patton's forces south of the inter-Army Group boundary line south of Argentan. Who was behind the halt order: Eisenhower, Montgomery, Bradley or some combination of these three?
