Subject:Difference between MIL-STD-1553 Test and Simulation PCI Card and MIL-STD-1553
Hi everybody,
I am new to this topic. so want to the know the difference between MIL-STD-1553 Test and Simulation PCI Card and MIL-STD-1553. I understood that MIL-STD-1553 can act either as a RT, BC or MT mode(only 1). But what does that Simulation PCI Card mean ??? which says can simulate and test 31 RTs.How should the testing of Simulation PCI Card be done. Should it have multiple channels to connect 31 RT's or how to the actual test jig be. Please help me in this regard. Thanks in advance.

A MIL-STD-1553 "Terminal" can be a BC, RT, or BM. On a given network there can be ONE (and only one) active BC. There can be up to 32 RTs (addresses 0-30, address 31 is reserved for broadcast messages). There can be any number of passive BM terminals.

There are several vendors for 1553 cards, PCI, PCIe, etc. In general these cards can operate as BC, RT, and/or BM. When they use the term "simulate and test 31 RTs", this just means that the card can operate as one (or more) RTs.

These cards are often used to simulate the behavior of "real" avionics terminals, but from the standpoint of the 1553 bus a RT "simulated" on one of these cards is no different from the "real" RT - it is just a Remote Terminal responding at that RT address.
