American Civil War

I am a huge civil war history buff and i am considering joining the sons of confederate verterans, but my christian concern is that it might be veiwed as a racist organization. I am not racist, but i do want to do my part to preserve both sides of the war beetween the states, does anyone have any input for me? Thank you very much.
