The Simpsons has long served to express the frustrations that many people have with contemporary society. A recent episode, broadcast just before the 2008 election, showed Homer struggling to have his vote counted on an electronic voting machine.

In early episodes, the political content was more subtle, for instance, the 'End Apartheid Now' poster that hung on Lisa Simpson's bedroom wall.
