War in Afghanistan (2001–present)
No end in sight

I find it disheartening that the end date for this war is being continuously pushed forward.

As we all remember, the Obama administration went through a long and thorough process of deliberation on the strategy of the war in the summer of 2010. The result was the announcement of a start date for withdrawal of summer 2011.

Now we are hearing that this date is essentially symbolic and that we will have a significant presence there until 2013-14.

It seems that the generals want to stay until we "win" (whatever that means) and Obama is going along for the ride.

The deliberation was an educational experience for Obama - but not in the way he expected. He learned that the generals have a lot of political clout and they are not afraid to use it.

Yes, I agree. And WE learned that Obama has no political courage.
