My grandfather, Col. Aubrey Mears Bruce was the last Allied Commander of the Persian Corridor, and was in charge of the lend -lease prior to him taking charge. Why is he never mentioned? Credit should be given to all those who contributed in the highest manner. I have many photos of his time there, of the "Big Three" at the Tehran Conference etc.
If anyone is interested.

Interesting..

I'm researching the story of Robert Skipworth Harris, vice-consul at the British Embassy in Isfahan and SOE agent, murdered in August 1942 while on an assignment in Luristan. I believe that he was part of the Allied effort to keep the Persian Corridor open. Was your grandfather in charge at that time? It's a long shot of course...would love to see some of the photos anyway..the Big Three would have been absolutely fascinating. omegavonu@hotmail.com

I am sorry this is late, I just noticed this today. I understand he enlisted in 1942 in Corps of Engineers in the Army, given rank of Major, ran Railroads delivering lend lease goods to USSR. Was elevated to Lt Colonel and then Bird Colonel. He always worked in the Railroad, served in WWI in Corp of Engineers as well, it was sort of a family business. He later became Superintendent of St Louis Railways.

I really have little on this period, it isn't a major WWII topic in books or any publication, although he is mentioned in the US government books on WWII. He was friends with many of the high military and civilian workers stationed in Tehran. He made many trips into USSR, taking inventory and was wined and dined with their top government officials. I have some photos on Ancestry.com Aubrey Mears Bruce.
