I was born in the canal zone and a U.S. citizen (both parents born in U.S.). My question is two fold. Can I get duel citizenship and is there any advantage to doing that?

Actually by being born in the canal zone, depending on the year you were born there, you automatically have dual citizenship. If you contact the consular office they can fax you a letter stating you have dual citizenship.
I know because I too was born in the canal zone, to two US cizitens. I was in search of my birth certificate and found this out as well.
As far as I can tell, there are no advantages of having the dual citizen, except that there are not too many people with it.
