I have a 1974 MG Midget and the stick shift is frozen. Originally I couldn't shift into 1st, 2n, or reverse but could shift into 3rd and 4th, however the car would not move forward. When I put it into neutral and let the clutch out, the car moved in the reverse direction. Then I tried to shift into reverse and it felt like something snapped as there was a lot of left to right play in the stick. Then I tried to move gear shift again and now it is frozen and won't move. At first I thought something snapped in the linkage maybe.

Also I can connect the clutch from underneath as there is no play in the clutch rod(for lack of proper name) to connect the eye bolt to the rod, any suggestions on how to do.
