I am wondering how much force is exerted when setting a ratchet style handbrake on a locomotive. I have had a very difficult time finding any information on the ratchet or wheel handbrakes. I found one reference from the Norfolk Southern RR that listed the force as 75 to 100 lbs. This sounds excessive but may be right. Does anyone know the answer?
