I am a bit of a mechanic on the pre 90's american cars and trucks. I've never turned a wrench on a vw, but am wanting to either buy a baja bug or hopefully build one. The question I have is.... how dependable and how many miles of moderate street and off roading can I expect out of let's say a mid to late 70's 1600cc engine? I plan on the external oil cooler and some ram air because I am told that #3 cylinder gets the hottest. Thanks for any additional info also.
