The Laws of Burgos, 1512-1513 were the first laws intended to control the conduct of Spanish colonials, including Native Americans. These laws required that natives in the empire convert to Catholicism.

Hernan Cortes was one of the most successful conquistadors. He conquered the Aztecs with the support of a small Spanish force, and an army 200,000 strong of native allies.
