I think the whole trial of Major Reno was hogwash. The blame is to be placed on several factors. The outdated information on the number of natives in the area. Apparently, the people in charge were too busy selling weapons and alcohol to the Natives and didn't bother keeping an eye on how many were joining Sitting Bull. Plus, there was Custer's arrogance. He was supposed to act in co-ordination with General Terry and General Cook, but he was only thinking about his political future as a possible presidential candidate. Major Reno was placed in an awkward position at Little Big Horn and was blamed for the death of Custer and his men. His supposed drinking happens to alot of people after a stressful situation. Losing a battle like the Little Big Horn would cause anyone to go downhill, especially with a lot of people blaming you for something that was out of your control.
