Initially started as a purely girls school, it became co-ed in the early seventies, on the request of the locals, as it was the only convent school in the area. Sacred Heart High School was also a boarding school for girls. In the early seventies, Mother Phillip Murphy was the principal of the school and also the Mother Superior of the Convent. Currently in 2010, the principal is Sister Teresa Thomas. The boarding has since been closed and it serves as a day-school only.
