The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) is an international organisation founded in 1989 after the Chernobyl accident to foster international cooperation and professional excellence within the nuclear industry. Every organisation in the world that operates a nuclear electric generating station is a WANO member.

WANO's mission is to maximise the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide by working together to assess, benchmark and improve performance through mutual support, exchange of information and emulation of best practices.
