, participated in the cornerstone laying ceremony of Santapogue Elementary School, in the fall of 1951. The school opened in September 1952, relieving the overcrowded situation at Main School.

2010 South Bay Elementary School Fire

On the evening of February 18, around 10pm, a fire started in the boiler room of the school, quickly spreading throughout the entire school after reaching the kitchen and compromising the natural gas lines. Just past midnight, the building was fully engulfed in flames. The blaze was fought for over 7 hours by firefighters from the West Babylon Fire Department, who were quickly joined by volunteers from Babylon

 and North Lindenhurst. The school is said to have been completely unoccupied at the time of the fire, as the entire school district is on winter break for the week. Before the fire was even out, School officials were working out a plan for over 300 students and their teachers to resume classes as soon as possible. On September 7, 2011 South Bay Elementary School re-opened it's doors.
