Warrigal Creek massacre

In July 1843 Ronald Macallister was killed by Aboriginies near Port Albert. To avenge his death a party of whites led by a rich squatter attacked a group of Aborigines. It is thought that over 60 people were killed in this action. After an escalation of killing between settlers and Aborigines an uncertain number of Aborigines were killed at Warrigal Creek, one of the Gippsland massacres

, leading a company of the Highland Brigade. Though the number of deaths is unknown, it is thought to be at least 150.
