The station first took its callsign WWED on August 30, 2005, and officially launched two months later on November 6 at 6:07pm. For almost a year, WWED would carry a Praise and Worship format. On October 18, 2006, the station switched to Positive Country/Southern Gospel, branded as "Gospel FM". In mid-June 2007, WWED changed its format to Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel, branded as "Bluegrass FM". On December 8, 2007, WEEM 91.7 FM, which had first taken its callsign six months earlier on June 8, was signed on as a simulcast of WWED broadcasting in Lynchburg
