He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1964 to the Eighty-ninth Congress. He resumed agricultural pursuits and later became an automobile dealer. He served the commissioner for the, Mississippi Department of Public Welfare from 1968 to 1971. He died March 14, 1995 in Philadelphia, Mississippi
and was interred at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Philadelphia, Mississippi
