In 1995, TTC ticket collector Dimitrija (Jimmy) Trajceski was murdered by Adrian Kinkead at Victoria Park Station. Kinkead was given a life sentence for the crime. He was subsequently also found guilty of the murders of Marsha and Tammy Ottey previously that same day.

Station modernization

Victoria Park is one of the stations currently being renovated and redesigned as part of the Station Modernization program. Other Stations include Pape, Union, St. Andrew, Osgoode, St. Patrick.

Currently the elevated bus bay platform has been completely demolished. A new ground level bus terminal will be built in the space previously occupied by the elevated platform. There will also be a new entrance, along with existing entrances being upgraded. The station will also feature a green roof

, with various hardy plants. Another prominent feature being added is elevators, making Victoria Park a fully accessible station.

The design aspects of the station include public art. The theme is "roots" by Aniko Meszaros. The theme is a response to the new green roof and diverse demographic in the Scarborough area. The design includes the words "Roots" and "Community" in different languages. "Roots" will have some slightly different colours, while "Community" will be put in layers on top of a tree ring design.

On May 24, 2010 the new bus platform was opened to the public. Construction on other aspects of the station is expected to continue until Fall 2011
