He is a professional photographer, highly specialised in applied photography, particularly architectural photography and interior photography.

His - amateur - involvement with photography began very early, in 1974.
He started working as a professional photographer in Greece, in 1985 when he also published his first works.

. The same year he began his long co-operation with magazines specialising in architecture and interior design, published in Greece and internationally.

He, also, takes photographs on behalf of advertising, hotel, shipping, air transport, construction and publishing companies and his pictures appear in prestigious American and European publications.

In 2002 the album "Houses in Greece - Under the sun" ISBN 960-7563-91-3 (Σπίτια στην Ελλάδα - Κάτω απ’ τον ήλιο) with photographs of the interiors of Greek houses, was published. In 2003 the album "The Face of Athens" ISBN 960-7563-99-9 (Το πρόσωπο της Αθήνας) with photographs from the architectural tour of the journalist, Nikos Vatopoulos, became a "best seller" and was published in English (2004) and republished (2008).

In 2009 he represented Greece at FotoWeek DC (Washington DC, USA) participating in an exhibition entitled “What Lies Beneath: Nature and Urban Landscape in EU Photography” along with nineteen photographers from different European countries.

From 2005 until 2010 he taught Applied Photography at the LEICA Creative Photography Academy in Athens, specialising in architectural and industrial photography.

Makris is still active in the profession. His work can be seen at protagon.gr, which lends its support to artistic style and expression online.
